A Book That Will Linger With You a Good Long While

♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ + What a beautiful, sad, and stick with you kind of story! It seems like I’ve read quite a few Holocaust books in the last year or two, but this one was different. This one was a love story. As much as I’ve read about the horrors of Nazi Germany, I can’t imagine living it. Here, we find a story of young love, of passion, of family and ties of friendship, set against the absolute brutality of the Nazis. There is also compassion, defiance, artists, art and hope where none should seem to exist. Ultimately, there is survival for some, and lives made from the ashes as best they can be made.

What’s even better (or more tragic, I can’t decide which) is that it’s partially based on a true story. I didn’t know that until the “chat with the author” at the end of my audiobook. Just, wow.
